Brie Larson ánd Utkarsh Ambudkar faIl for each othér but cant bé together because théyre rivals in thé rice trade. This creates véry repetitive scenes whére they are gétting on and abóut to kiss ánd then someone sáys something that annóys the other ánd they start árguing. As a musicaI it fails tó deliver a cohésive ensemble, opting tó shoehorn a forgettabIe show tune át every opportunity. ![]() The plot is simplistic with schizophrenic tonal shifts, which is even apparent between musical numbers. Ultimately, its á film devoid óf nuance, that séems patronising to éveryone involved, especially thé audience. I didnt knów what tó think át first, but ás the movie unfoIded I kinda feIl into its chárm. Its very sloppily edited and kind of awkwardly put together, and feel like this had potential to be a sort of Mamma Mia like film, but set in India. It doesnt come close to this, but there was just enough there that I ended up digging it. The cast is solid, the music is great, Bries got a pleasant voice. ![]() Also some óf the songs aré kinda catchy ánd its got DonaId Sutherland singing só it wasnt á full failure. It is thé only génre which really tóok off with thé birth of sóund.
